Scientists are now finding that the key to brain health and the prevention and healing of diseases and conditions affecting the brain like Alzheimer’s, Autism, ADHD, Parkinson’s, Depression, Anxiety and Insomnia lies in the health of the gut that has now been recognized as The  Second Brain.
The gut is now known as the second brain not only because it is extremely rich in nerves but because it is home to bacteria, both good and bad, ten times the number of cells that make up your entire body, that produce chemicals directly affecting brain function and impacting the metabolism of the entire body in a profound way. Ninety per cent of the body’s serotonin is produced in the gut.
Also, some 70 to 80 per cent of the body’s immune system is made up of cells to be found in the gut and this immune system is also powerfully impacted by the bacteria population in the gut and elsewhere in the body.
The 100 trillion bacteria in the gut contribute over 99% of the DNA in the body and thereby play a prominent role in its overall function.

Avoiding or minimizing antibiotic use, having natural birth rather than caesarian section if possible, adequate breastfeeding, managing our stress well, reducing sugar, carbohydrates and artificial sweeteners as well as eating a fibre-rich diet and generally maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Lastly, the colon, in particular, must be kept healthy. Apart from the high-fibre diet mentioned already, drinking plenty of water, having regular bowel movements, and undergoing cleansing of the colon with colonic irrigation has been known to have a powerfully rejuvenating impact on total body health.
